As part of my 3rd Year University Module, I was assigned a 2 week working placement with the independent publisher and supplier Stack Magazines at Somerset House. During my time there, I was fortunate enough to work on live briefs that included leading the redesign of their Stack Podcast identity, as well as creating live animations for the Stack brand and services.
Logo Design
I was tasked with creating an identity mark for the companies podcast channel. It would need to appropriately utilise the same straight forward and easy to read design style that Stack has running throughout its visuals, as well as incorporating the original favicon logo.
Logo Animation
The logo animation was to go alongside the identity to be posted on social media as well as any video podcasts. The short video is supposed to be a playful take on the existing favicon logo, taking inspiration for 50's/60's American radio lightning bolts coming from the microphone.
Stack Bundle Animation
I presented a range of concepts to the CEO at Stack with this one being the resounding favourite. Using the similar style of the magazines falling into the stack as the podcast animation, the video utilises Stacks colour palette. The screen is overtaken by the different colours before fading to white and incorporating a kinetic type that I designed for the Wordmark logo.
The animation was used for Stacks new service 'Stack Bundle', being advertised on their various social media accounts.
Stocked by Stack - Roundel Design
A small project that involved me designing favicon style stickers for the companies customers. The design was created in all of the brands colour palette variations, giving the customer a choice of which sticker they could use.
Steve Watson - CEO of Stack Magazines
"James Iredale worked with Stack from Monday 13 January to Wednesday 22 January 2020. He worked diligently at all times, and was able to pick up briefs quickly and produce a high standard of creative work. One of his pieces of animation was used at a live event featuring Ian Hislop, and a separate piece of logo design and animation are currently being used to promote the Stack podcast. We’d love to have the opportunity to work with him again in the future.”
